Bernard Eilers
Eilers was a Dutch photographer who worked commercially as well as personally. He was an innovator of the three colour process, and devised his own printing process that he called “photo-chroma eilers”. I want to use him as a case study, so traveled to Amsterdam to visit the City Archives where a large number of his original glass plate negatives are held.
I realised a number of things while there, making the entire trip worthwhile. I now need to see some of the prints, which the Archives did not have, but there are a few in the collection of the V&A in London. All photos of the negatives below are mine, all colour images are digital assemblies made by the Amsterdam City Archives.
